a former navy s.e.a.l., chris kyle and his friend chad littlefield were shot and killed in ft. worth texas. the man who pulled the trigger is a veteran who kyle may have been trying to help with ptsd. susan candiotti joins us live with more. what do we know about how this happened? >> well, got some brand new information during the press conference. first of all, we learned about an alleged confession. and police say they think they also have found the murder weapon, when they describe as a semiautomatic handgun that was found at the suspect's house. let's back up a little bit. after the double shooting at that gun lodge, police say the suspected shooter who's 25-year-old eddie ray ralph took off in kyle's pickup truck. then they said that he went to his sister's house and told her and his brother what had happened, and then left that house. that's when the sister called the police. police put out an all points bulletin and tracked ralph, the suspect to his own house. now, the home was ringed, according to what one police lieutenant told me, with at least a dozen police officers. they trie

range in texas. one of them is a well-known former navy s.e.a.l. his name is chris kyle and wrote this memoir, "american sniper" after he left the navy s.e.a.l.s. it went on the be a best-seller and propelled him to stardom. susan candiotti is closely following this for us. susan, a little while ago we heard from law enforcement where the shooting happened. what did they say? >> you know we got a lot of details from them, don. and police believe it was actually the very first time that legendary navy s.e.a.l. sniper chris kyle and his friend chad littlefield met with another marine vet, 25-year-old eddie ray routh. and it ended tragically with kyle and littlefield shot dead multiple times of a remote area of a gun range near ft. worth, texas. police say they were found nearly two hours later by a guide at the range. about 25 to 30 other weapons were found at the crime scene, including ak-47s and long guns. investigators say routh drove off in kyle's pickup and headed to his sister's house. there he allegedly told her and his brother what happened. he left, and the two called polic

creatures that are already disappearing. >> absolutely. tell us about the other story. there is a u.s. navy ship wreck off the philippines. the military said it will chop it up, get it out of there. is that the right approach? can you tell us what's happening? >> another piece of bad news. a couple today. unfortunately this is a terrible tragedy. u.s. navy mine sweeper ran aground on a coral reef that happens to be a unesco world heritage site in the philippines. we have lost 25% of the world's coral reefs. another 25% is rapidly declining. for this type of activity to happen -- for a u.s. navy ship to run aground and destroy precious coral that takes thousands of years to grow is a tragedy and unconscionable. we don't knowle exactly what happened, why the ship ran aground. it hasn't happened for 40 years. the navy has a good safety record. at this point all they can do is cut up the ship. if they were to drag it off the reef it would cause more damage. they hope to go in with ship-bound cranes, cut up the ship which is mostly wood, lift it and remove it from the reef. i hope the navy will
